Katherine Xin is Professor of Organizational Behavior, Bayer Chair in Leadership, Associate Dean (Europe), Director of Hospitality EMBA, DBA and CCEMBA Program at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). She holds her Ph.D. from the University of California and was previously on the faculty of the University of Southern California, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland. She has extensive experience in teaching, research, executive education, consulting, and corporate governance across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Professor Xin specializes in the areas of leadership, organizational culture, organizational transformation, AI-enabled management, organizational design, and strategic human resource management. Her current work examines how organizations can effectively combine human leadership, organizational capabilities, and artificial intelligence to drive innovation, transformation, and sustainable performance. Throughout her career, she has been committed to bridging rigorous research and managerial practice, helping leaders translate evidence-based insights into organizational impact. Professor Xin is a frequent contributor to academic journals and executive conferences. Her research work has appeared in the leading international management journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Leadership Quarterly, and other publications. Her books Made in China - Secrets of China’s Dynamic Entrepreneurs (2009), Five Types of Effective Leaders (2011), Five-Star Model of Talent Development (2014), Global Expansion- the Chinese Way (2018), Management in Digital Era: Managing Companies in a Platform Way (2019), Becoming Excellent Change Leaders (2024) and Organizational Behavior for Effective Executives (2025) received broad attention from executives globally.
In addition to her academic responsibilities, Professor Xin serves as an advisor, board member, and independent director for global public companies and entrepreneurial ventures. She has worked with firms including Alcatel, Alibaba, Allianz, Baosteel, BASF, Baxter, BMW, Bosch, CATL, China Mobile, China Steel, Daimler Benz, Ford Motor Company, Fluor Daniel, Horizon Robotics, Interbrew, Inventec, Johnson & Johnson, Kingdee, Merck, Novartis, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Qualcomm, San Miguel, Sony, Toyota, TSMC, and various government agencies in the US, Hong Kong, and China. She was also marketing director at a California rubber manufacturer in oil industry and helped found three companies.
